In 2006, Jean- Pierre Cohier won the Grand Prix de la Baguette de la Ville de Paris.

I have never lived in a city that esteemed a loaf of bread so highly. Sure, every deli in New York claims to have the best bagel, but show me the credentials. In Paris, 2006, 257 Parisian aritsan bread makers entered the competition for best baguette. The three criteria judged upon are appearance, taste and smell. A jury, presided over by an adjunct to the Mayor of Paris, elevated Cohier’s loaf to the number one spot. Yes, there is a modest monetary award, and yes the President of France and those closest to him, will tear apart their loaves of Cohier bread with alacrity for a whole year, but the honor remains forever.
