The Kings of France chose this Gothic Church as their burial place.

Clovis (died 511) and his son, Childebert (died 558) are buried here, as well as the remains of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, which were moved here after being dumped in a mass grave during the French Revolution. The church was begun around 1135 and a visit to the crypt is a powerful experience. The funerary sculpture is impressive and tours are given twice daily. The history is staggering, the stained-glass is beautiful, and all but three of France’s kings rest here.
